The Welcome to 1940s New York website from the CUNY Graduate Center provides photos, color-coded maps, statistics, and a brief narrative for 116 survey areas (approximations of the neighborhoods we know today) based on the 1940 Census and a market analysis published in 1943 by four local newspapers.
